Farmers Group Our Farmers In line with our goal to improving income and employment opportunities for rural communities we cooperate with eight farmer groups in six districts of Bhutan:
Dozam Community Forestry Management Group Established in 1996, the Dozam Community Forest is the oldest Community Forest in Bhutan. It has a total of 60 members engaged with the distillation of lemon grass oil from wild collected lemon grass. It is located at Drametse geog in Mongar district, Eastern Bhutan. Dozam supplies organic certified Lemon grass oil to Bio Bhutan. Pipla Management Group The Pipla Management Group was established in 2004. This Group has a total of 107 member households from four villages. These four villages are located in Nangkor geog under Zhemgang Dzongkhag in South Central Bhutan. This Management group supplies organic certified pipla (Piper mullesua) to Bio Bhutan. 'Pipla' is a botanical relative of pepper, with a sour, hot and adstringend taste. The fruit, botanically called 'drupes' are used as spice and as components of ayurvedic and tibetan medicine. Phuensum Community Forestry Management Group Located at Bagang, Drametse geog under Mongar district, Eastern Bhutan, this group has a total of 96 members. The management group supplies organic certified lemongrass oil to Bio Bhutan. This group was founded in 2008 in order to sustainably manage and use naturally occurring lemon grass for the production of organic certified lemon grass oil. Bepam Community Forestry Management Group Bepam is located at Uzorong geog in the district of Trashigang, Eastern Bhutan. The 2008 established group has a total of 15 distillers comprising of 180 members. This management group supplies organic certified lemon grass oil to Bio Bhutan. Dekiling Group Dekiling is located in the district of Sarpang, Southern Bhutan. This group has a total of 18 members who supply ginger. The certification of the so far conventional ginger is planned to begin in 2009. Women Groups Twenty five women of Dakpai, Tama and Takhabi in Zhemgang district of Zhemgang in South-Central Bhutan supply turmeric. The conversion of so far conventional to organic turmeric cultivation will begin in 2009. Honey Producers Honey producers of a. 45 members of Lalikharka and Gopini villages, Dunglagang geog of Tsirang district in Southern Bhutan (45 members). b. 45 members of Samkhara, Saudalay and Batasay villages, Jimecholing geog, in Sarpang district, Southern Bhutan (45 members). Cordyceps Bio Bhutan sources Cordyceps sinensis from public auctions, organized annually by the government. Collectors of cordyceps live in the high altitude mountain range of northern Bhutan.
