About Bio Bhutan About Bio Bhutan
Bio Bhutan is a pioneer enterprise that produces and markets natural and organic certified products from Bhutan for Bhutanese and international markets.

OUR GOALS
1.      Contribute to the sustainable use of natural resources of Bhutan;
2.      Improve income and employment opportunities of rural communities and private entrepreneurs;
3.      Create surplus value for final consumers through healthy and tasty natural and organic products from Bhutan.
4.     Promote the image of Bhutan as a producer of pure and natural products.

WHERE OUR PRODUCTS COME FROM
We source all our raw materials from seven farmer groups living in well defined areas across the country. Processing of the products is carried out by the farmer groups under the supervision of Bio Bhutan. Bio Bhutan assures processing and packaging under hygienic conditions.

CERTIFICATION
Organic certification was initiated in 2005 with INDOCERT an Indian certification agency based in Kerala. Between 2007 and 2009, certification services have been provided by CERES www.ceres-cert.com. From 2010 onwards ADITI www.aditicert.net will carry out the inspections according to the requirements of EU and NOP certification.

MARKETING AND PROMOTION
We established marketing links with customers in Bhutan, India, USA, Singapore, Thailand, and Europe. Promotion of our products is carried out through our website www.biobhutan.com and advertisements in the local media.

ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE
Bio Bhutan is guided by an Advisory Board comprising of representatives from the Funding Agency Helvetas/ SDC, the Swiss Bhutan Society and its sister organization: the Swiss-Bhutan Friendship Association, and the Private Sector in Bhutan. Day to day activities of the organization is implemented by a team of nine employees: Executive Director (Mrs. Irmela Krug: irmela@druknet.bt ), Managing Director (Mrs. Karma Yangzom: karma1@druknet.bt ), Product Managers (Ms. Yeshey Wangmo, Ms. Pema Lhamo), Accounts Officer (Mr. Nobin Gurung), Administrative Officer (Ms. Deepa Dhungyel), Logistics Officer (Mr. Yanka Dawa) and Nima Sharma (Office Assistant). One field representative (Rinzin Wangchuck) is over looking the lemon grass distillation in Sherichu, Mongar.

OUR PARTNERS
All Bio Bhutan activities are carried out in close collaboration with partners from the Royal Government of Bhutan. It is extremely important for us to work in accordance with the development programs of the government and share resources and efforts. Our key partners are: (1) The Lemon Grass Oil Cooperative in Mongar and Trashigang Dzongkhag , (2) National Organic Programme (NOP), (3) Agricultural Marketing Services (AMS), (4) Social Forestry Division (SFD), (5) Essential Oil Development Programme (EODP), (6) Bhutan Chamber of Commerce and Industries (BCCI), (6) Council of Renewable Natural Resources Research in Bhutan (CORRB), (7) Renewable Natural Resources Research Centre (RNRRC) in Wengkhar (Eastern Bhutan), (8) The Bhutan Agriculture & Food Regulatory Authority (BAFRA), (9) National Women’s Association of Bhutan (NWAB).
